Course Objectives

The Program Management course is designed for senior project/program and other business managers who currently have (or who are preparing to take on) leadership roles in project environments or organisations. Typically these program managers, project directors or other managers are directly responsible for multiple projects, programs or portfolios of work and accountable for group outcomes

Learning Outcomes

  • Integrate the organisation’s project/program and portfolio management environment with the overall business environment.
  • Facilitate executive and senior management involvement in project/program and portfolio management.
  • Articulate how to effectively ensure the program or portfolio of projects is aligned with the organisation's strategy.
  • Build and sustain positive project/program and portfolio relationships at senior management and executive level.
  • Create high performance teams and articulate management's role in team development and team dynamics.
  • Explain key change management requirements and their application to project environments.


  • Provides a solid understanding across the project management discipline.
  • Learn and develop ability to apply the ten (10) project management knowledge areas of Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK@) Guide.
  • During workshop, learn and apply knowledge to deliver the project outputs (time, cost, quality) to project stakeholders.
  • Build project management capabilities and understand importance of identifying requirements and establishing clear objectives, managing competing stakeholders, and meeting stakeholder requirements.
  • Refine skills in functions of project management - four core or constraint functions (scope, time, cost, quality) and four enabling functions (human resources, communications, procurement and risk).


Participants in this course are expected to have thorough knowledge and somepractical experience in the application of project management principles. An appropriate level of competency is also required in leading and directing a project as identified with the tasks, knowledge and skills in project management.

Delivery Strategy

The course has been structured to be delivered over three (3) days. It has been designed by our senior trainers who combine industry experience with academic excellence.

  • Introduction to program management and the competencies of effective project directors and program managers
  • Effective stakeholder management

Day Two

  • Governance and effective project delivery cultures and ‘systems’
  • Managing benefits and successful outcomes
  • Developing the project or program business case

  • Managing organisational change
  • Communicating to influence
  • Leadership and management styles
  • Creating high performance teams
